The History of F.G.C.I.

In the early 1970’s, the Lord gave L.E. Cassidy the idea of forming an association for
independent ministers. He then contacted Rev. C.L. Morrison concerning what the Lord had
laid on his heart. He wanted him to pray about helping him in getting this started, since Rev.
Morrison had so many contacts. They met several times and then contacted Revs. Rudolph
Davis and Charles Bartle. These four men are considered the “Founding Fathers” of F.G.C.I.
Revs. Cassidy, Morrison, Davis, and Bartle were all independent ministers who wanted to unite
with other ministers of like precious  faith.  The goal was to be able to have fellowship free of
politics and monetary motives. It was to be  based on love for God and fellow ministers with
each church being  sovereign. Churches were not to be controlled by an organization, but by
the pastor and congregation. The vision and purpose of F.G.C.I. was to organize youth camps,
Conventions, fellowship meetings, youth rallies, establish foreign and home missions, to
license and ordain ministers to the work of the Gospel as evangelists, pastors, and
missionaries, and to encourage the establishing of new churches and ministries.  The purpose
was not to own churches , but to work with ministers in acquiring proper legal papers for non-
profit purposes.( for churches who are members of F.G.C.I.)  The General Secretary’s
responsibility is to stay up with legal issues with the IRS and  to help churches get their EIN
numbers. This number is necessary for churches to obtain their non-profit status. All of our
"Founding Fathers" have now graduated to Glory .It is with profound gratitude that we
endeavor to carry on the legacy of these great men of God.
